| Bio: | Character: Mao Series/Fandom: Code Geass Original or Alternate: Original Age: 17 (but in my opinion, looks to be at least 21) Gender: Male Species: …human? Sexuality: C.C.-sexual. Well, if he had to choose something real, it’d be heterosexual. Appearance: For a civilian, Mao looks extremely weird. His outfit is very complex and hard to describe, but the most noticeable things about him is his white coat, visor, and headphones. His hair is white and slicked back for the most part except for a few clumps of hair that hang down in his face, reaching to chin-length. Since he has his Geass permanently turned on, his eyes appear violet with a strange pink V-shaped sign reaching from one end to the other. His pupils are barely visible, and the V seems to glow. You usually never see his eyes, though, because he wears a purple visor over his eyes, which blocks all possible ways to see his eyes. He generally wears a white coat reaching to about mid-shin with long slits up to mid-thigh on the sides. The sleeves reach down to his wrists, tucked into a pair of brown gloves. He wears long legging-type pants that tuck into brown boots. Over the white coat, he wears a small extra thing that drapes over his shoulders to his elbows, almost like an undersized jacket without sleeves. Besides that, he looks pretty much normal! Personality: If you wanted to describe Mao to a friend in two words, it would be absolutely insane. Mao is totally nuts, in every aspect. If you wanted to hear a more accurate description, then you would say he has three personalities (but make no mistake, he doesn’t have MPD). The first personality is rather cunning and clever, the second is devoted to C.C. and nothing else, and the third appears only when C.C. begins to be portrayed in a negative light. The first is one of those criminals who look like they know everything. He’s quick on his feet and clever in this state, and is more than eager to abuse his Geass for whatever reasons he has. There isn’t much to say about this part of his personality, honestly, because any motivation he has in this state is due to a different ‘personality.’ The second personality is just Mao as a child when he was still growing up with C.C. He loves her, although less like a mother and more like a woman now. He will do anything for her, or to see her—hence the first ‘personality.’ All he wants is to just be with C.C. again, and live with her like they used to. He tries desperately hard to impress her and to make her happy, because Mao isn’t satisfied until she is. C.C. is everything, and worth everything. But, if someone reveals to Mao C.C.’s ulterior motives and he pieces it together, you’re screwed. If that happens, Mao loses any hint of common sense he used to have and is prepared to do anything—and that includes shooting C.C., for whatever reason he has. At this point, he’ll take C.C. by force if he has to, even if she struggles. By this point, it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is him having C.C., and getting rid of anyone who says anything against her. Abilities/Strengths: Mao has a power called Geass, given to him by C.C. For Mao, the Geass manifests itself in telepathy. Mao can read anyone’s mind (without eye contact), including subconscious thoughts and innermost aspects of a person—but he has to really put an effort in to get that far. If he tries, he has a mind-reading range of 500 meters. If he isn’t trying, the range is less, and he can only hear surface thoughts. His Geass is always turned on, so this is automatic. He often uses his power for his own needs (like anyone else) and such. He’s particularly good at chess, and can bend a person’s mind in ways that will make them do things he wants them to do, even without Lelouch’s type of Geass. However, this isn’t a very reliable method. Weapons: Several chainsaws. He only ever has one on him at any given time, though. Oh yeah, and a gun. Weaknesses: Ability-wise, Mao cannot turn off his Geass. This means that he has to hear the thoughts of everyone within range, whether he wants it or not. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone. C.C. is the only exception. It’s enough to drive someone mad. Personality-wise, he’s absolutely crazy and obsessed. Anything that goes against his views of C.C. will make him lose all common sense. He’s really reckless at this stage, and can be easily trumped by even a small child—it wouldn’t take a genius. History: Canonly, not much was ever said about Mao’s past. All that we do know is that he was born in China and shortly became an orphan. He’d been living out of an orphanage for most of his life until he met C.C., a strange green-haired woman who didn’t adopt him, but did take him out of the orphanage. C.C. was going to make a contract with Mao. She wanted Mao to do something for her, and in an exchange, she passed on her power to him. She gave him a power called Geass, which affects every possessor differently. For Mao, it meant telepathy. His Geass was always turned on, so he was stuck permanently with telepathy. As a six-year-old who could hear everyone’s thoughts, Mao had a hard time hearing himself, or anyone who was physically speaking to him. He was overwhelmed, confused, and frustrated. But he could never hear C.C.’s thoughts, so C.C. helped him get through it. She told him just what to do and it always worked. “Mao, just listen to my voice,” she had always told him. And he did, and the mind-numbing pain of everyone else’s thoughts went away. He began to view her as a mother figure, someone who took care of him like he had always wanted to be raised. He idolized and worshipped her, and was utterly devoted to her, and only her. He thought that she felt the same way, but she didn’t. Eventually, when Mao turned 17, C.C. left and moved on because she realized that Mao could not fulfil the contract she had bound with him. She left China and went away. Mao was left to his own devices, dealing with her absence on his own. He created a cassette tape with C.C.’s voice on it, saying over and over again: “Mao. Mao, listen to my voice. Just listen to my voice, Mao…” He bought a headset, plugged it into a cassette recorder, and put the cassette in. He hasn’t ever taken the headphones off since, and has rarely ever turned the cassette off. He can still hear everyone’s thoughts, but it definitely takes his mind off it. He got wind that C.C. had gone to Area 11 (known to us as Japan). Immediately, he flew to Area 11 to find her again, thinking it had been nothing more than a mix-up, or some business-trip type of absence. It was C.C., how could she possibly leave him? But then he heard about another Geass user, a boy named Lelouch who was leading a Japanese rebellion under the name of Zero, who had ties to C.C. He tried to ruin Lelouch’s plans to get to C.C. He got control over one of Lelouch’s close friends, Shirley, revealing his identity as Zero to her, and made her shoot him. She nearly did, but her mental grief made the plan backfire. Mao instead challenged Lelouch to a chess game in a train carriage, as he knew Lelouch was exceptionally talented at it. But, so was he, he had the power of telepathy. Using his Geass, he quickly defeated Lelouch, but before he could bring Shirley back into the plan, C.C. showed up and broke Lelouch out of the train, sending it away with Mao still inside. Mao wasn’t angry, though, not at Lelouch, not at Shirley. He had seen C.C., that was enough. All of a sudden, he was pounding on the glass, desperately trying to get C.C. to notice him so that she would come with him. She didn’t, and he was sent away. Two days later, still out to get C.C., he instead wakes up in Econtra.
